NARCONON Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programme

The fundamental principle of the Narconon Rehabilitation Programme is that it is an entirely drug-free programme. Narconon does not use substitute drugs or medications to attempt to solve the individual’s problems caused by drugs or alcohol abuse. Instead, Narconon’s approach is to assist the individual to regain control of his own life. The individual is not treated as a patient receiving care, but rather as a student learning key life skills with which to succeed in life. A Narconon student does not commence the Programme to recover from an illness, but enrols to learn something that he does not already know. Good nutrition is an important component of the delivery of the Programme.

Prior to commencing the Programme, each individual is given a full medical examination by a medical doctor who assesses the individual prior to giving his professional permission to commence the Programme. In some instances it is necessary to do a medical withdrawal prior to commencement of the Programme. The individual is also examined prior to commencement of the Sauna Programme and medical review is available as individually required by each student.

The Programme is designed to produce graduates who are drug-free, productive and ethical members of society. A Narconon graduate will not attend weekly meetings for months after graduation as he will have been given the tools with which to succeed whilst on the Programme, although a re-entry programme will be prepared for the student to follow as he restarts his life on a new footing.

A Narconon graduate will have obtained a new orientation in life. The premise of the Narconon Programme is that a former drug addict or alcoholic can achieve a new way of life. This goal applies (and is often achieved) wherever the Programme is delivered, and is testified to by four decades of graduates.
