Richard, one of our students, writes about the detoxification (sauna) part of the programme:

"The sauna has been hard but is has been worth it. The gradual realisation has occurred that I’m closer to the real Richard than I have been for a long time. Without realising it I have become much more alert and alive. My brain has awakened; my thoughts have much more clarity. I am returning to my former feisty self!!
I feel healthier; I find that I cough less and my chest is a lost less congested. I awake in the mornings bright and in a positive frame of mind and with a much more organised and definitive attitude as to what is to be achieved on a day to day basis. I work harder and finish each day pleasantly tired and have peaceful sleep.
My appetite has returned and I am enjoying my food for the first time in a long time. Feeling hunger is a refreshingly new experience, but I will have to be careful not to leave Narconon supporting a belly of significant proportion!
I have noticed that my short term memory has improved. In particular I find that remembering names is easier. This stands out as I was notoriously bad at names prior to the detoxification programme.
I am much calmer and more relaxed. Over the past years I have tended to be a bit of an emotional time bomb. I will always speak my mind and stand up for what I believe is right but I find that my emotional reactions are far better considered and my mind is well adjusted (some may disagree!)
My personality is livelier. My sense of humour has improved and I can laugh without feelings of reservation. Interaction with other people is less restrained and more comfortable; there is a sense of coming out of a void and returning to a former place.
The sauna has given me a great start on the way to rehabilitation. I believe that it has assuaged most physical symptoms of my alcoholism which has helped begin the psychological process. In effect, I think that it has taken away a significant proportion of the anxiety associated with addictive withdrawal and left a clear mind to go forward and address the forthcoming challenges."
