Narconon Newsletter 01-11-2007Welcome to the Narconon Newsletter. Most people who become addicts are using the addiction to deal with part of their life. Over 40 years of practice has proven that our Life Skills courses are the courses that will put their addiction in the past. After these courses the person will be able to deal with their life without the use of drugs or alcohol and indeed would find future use to get in the way of their plans for a productive life. The first book in the Life Skills part of the programme is "The Therapeutic Training Routines Course". This consists of exercises in confronting and communication skills to improve the student's ability to be comfortable in any situation and comfortably confront other people, to listen and communicate well and to exercise effective self control. A student works on this book together with another student, who they refer to as their "twin". The idea of having two students working together is to bring up their responsibility for themselves and for another person. Here is what one of our current students had to say upon completion of this course. "I have now completed book 1 of the course. This has consisted of various practical exercises with my twin, L.P. These exercises are orchestrated to develop skills and positive attitudes toward others, an assertive, though not necessarily overbearing attitude, in dealing with others. I feel the first part of the course has helped me to begin to come to terms with my feelings and emotions of the past, which have been numbed by the effects of alcohol. Being alcohol free now for nearly two weeks, I can think a lot more clearly. This is at times quite painful emotionally in coming to terms with my situation and realising what I have lost, and what I nearly lost. So far in my first week of completing book 1 it has given me awareness of the dangers alcohol has put me in, both in the physical aspects of my health and mentally. Hence as the course progresses I hope it will continue to benefit me
and that I will be able to explore some of the underlying reasons as to
why I took to consuming alcohol in excess, and nearly destroying my life
completely." To speak to one of our counsellors please phone 0800 169 4803. Best Regards,
