"REHAB FOR CHRISTMAS"
Christmas is supposed to be a happy time. This is what we've grown up to expect and the message from advertisers at this time of the year reinforces this. Unfortunately, the families of addicts often find that the holidays are anything but happy.
Frequently holidays can bring about depression, causing addicts to abuse even more, thus increasing the risk factors. Families learn to endure the holidays, hoping that nothing disastrous happens, rather than participate in the joyful occasions they are meant to be.
Believe it or not, the best time for drug or alcohol rehabilitation is during the holidays. The addict is kept safe, leaving everyone else free to enjoy themselves. A happy new year is in the making for all, as the addict begins on a new road to a new life. Celebration can then continue throughout the year.
While there are numerous advantages for rehab over the holidays, it can be a difficult time to get someone enrolled. The addict may convince the family that they will enter rehab after the New Year, while in actual fact it is just an excuse for continued drug use. The family is more apt to feel guilty about sending someone to rehab and relent to the request to wait. However, there could be no gift greater than an addiction free life and the hope of a new life. This is what everyone is wishing for deep down inside, even the addict.
You probably agree that rehab for the holidays is the best gift, but it also raises the realistic question of "How?" "How can we pull this off now?" That is were we come in. Contact one of our trained counsellors on 0800 169 4803 who will help you to make this a reality.
Following is an actual success story of a long-term addict, whose family had almost given up hope. Finally as a last resort they tried a family intervention and it worked. Here are the words of the recovered addict about that intervention.
"It would be nice to tell you that I did it on my own. It would be nice to tell you that I made some spiritual breakthrough and saved myself, but the fact is that I didn't. My family and friends guided me and forced me into rehab and for that I will be forever grateful because I am alive. I live. I enjoy every day now, especially knowing where I would have been had I been allowed to go where the drugs were leading me. My family's help will always be a debt I owe because without it I'd be gone."
