Narconon Newsletter 27-01-2008

Welcome to the Narconon Newsletter.

When a student completes the Narconon programme he or she usually gives a speech to the staff and students. Family and friends are also often present. Here is what one student who recently completed the programme had to say:-

"It all started in Aug 2006, I was rushed to hospital for major surgery. I had a blood disorder resulting in nearly losing my leg. I spent 5 weeks in hospital. I discharged myself a couple of times just to have another drink finally getting dragged back to hospital by my family. I lay in the hospital bed thinking to myself "I cannot get any lower that this, I need to sort myself out".

I had decided to go to a rehab for the second time in my life. The first being a NHS rehab which just filled me up with other drugs, which I later had a problem with. I left hospital and returned to drink and using drugs, by October I had lost so much weight I was weak and a total mess. I had arranged to go to rehab in Nottingham. I arrived there a little worse for wear on October 21st 2006. I woke the next morning to a very nice looking place in the middle of no-where, "OK" I thought "I can handle this". I need to smoke "oh shit no smoking ..". I felt rough I lasted 24 hours and I had it away on my toes. Well it was my birthday the next week. Three weeks later I was home and I can't even remember getting there or who had taken me there.

My parents who had always stood by me had arranged for me to come here to Narconon. I agreed. It was a lot closer to them and just down the road from my children. I arrived on 1st April 2007. I met Dale, we had a chat and I decided to stay. At least here I would be learning and dealing with my addiction and yes I could smoke.

I spent 23 hours in withdrawals and I was drink and drug free. It was here I met my twin, Fiona. I came down from withdrawals the next day and was introduced to the mad house and I moved into the dormitory with a great bunch of individuals. If it wasn't for Neil one night talking to me I don't think I'd be here. Thanks mate. The next day I was on course and doing TRs. I thought what is this all about? But it all made sense in the end. Next the sauna. Only three of us in there. The sauna was good I felt clean and very alert after 36 days. It was on Book 3 (The Learning Improvement Course) that I struggled. I hadn't studied for years. Once I got my head around it though it definitely made a lot of sense. This book should be give to 10 to 12 year olds in school. If you put this book into practise studying is so much easier. Then Book 4A the dreaded TRs again. I thought it would be easier second time around. How wrong I was. Falling asleep at one point my new twin Mark swiftly thought I was having a fit! I passed all TRs then book 4B (the objectives). I spent the first couple of months worrying about these but these were the start of my life changing. I worked with Mark on objectives 1 and 2.

Then I decided I wanted to go to see my daughter for her 18th Birthday. Graham said "no way". I was very persistent so he suspended me. I went out with, if I am honest, the intention of getting wrecked and I am sorry to say I came back 15 days later a thousand pounds lighter and spent 8 days back in withdrawals. Well I didn't do it the first time and you should do the course properly. I would not recommend a little holiday to anyone as it cost me a lot of money and an extra 5 weeks here.

My twin Mark had moved on and I was back with my original twin Fiona. We did the objectives and we both got a lot from these. It certainly opened my eyes to a few things. I couldn't have done these without Fiona. If you have a good twinship and the trust is there you will get a great deal out of objectives. Fiona and I had it all, tears, pain, laughter and above all massive wins. I would trust her with my life. Then book 5 (The Ups and Downs in Life Course). This put the icing on the cake for me as I know now who and what my problem was and I am handing it. Deep down I already knew this but it took book 5 for me to realise it. Book 6 (The Personal Values and Integrity Course), is an important book, how true it is to have your own personal ethics in place. After Book 6 it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Keep your ethics in and it will save you some writing later on. Book 7 (The Changing Conditions in Life Course), this book was excellent. I have put the formulae into practice already and they do work. Then book 8 (The Way to Happiness). Deep down we all know what is in this book and that all of it is so true.

I have tried though my 9 and half months to find fault with this course, I've had a few moments with Matt and Helen (the course supervisors). My favourite saying was "this is all a load of bollocks" but I can safely say that, if done properly, this course certainly does work. Thanks to Matt and Helen they have been my rocks. My utmost respect goes to you guys and to Dominique. I couldn't have done this without you. Thanks to all the staff past and present. I have made a great many new friends here. Micheal (security) a great friend you will know what I mean when I say "I will get you back one day" and Joe "I love you more than that". To all you guys and girls I love you all to bits. I hope to see you all get through this course like I have and all get the same out of it as I did. I am able to help you if I can. Last, but by no means least, Fiona, we got here the same weekend and graduated together. I couldn't have asked for a better twin and I couldn't have done half of this without you. You will always be special to me. I love you to bits. I have seen you grow and blossom since we met. I think you are a fantastic girl and you will go far in your new life."
