Narconon UK Newsletter 24-02-2008
Welcome to the Narconon UK newsletter.
When someone completes the Narconon programme he or
she usually gives a speech to the staff and students.
Family and friends are also often present. Here is what
one student who recently completed the programme had to
say:-
"Well here I am now, I never thought I would see the day I
would be sitting here graduating, but I've made it. It has been
a long, hard and worthwhile journey.
I decided I needed help when I drove to my dealer's house to
score and stayed there for hours just getting stoned. I got in
my car to drive home and I was in that much of a state I could
not see where I was going. So I pulled in and parked the car on
the side and the road and cried because I did not know what to
do or where to turn. I knew that if I told my parents it would
break their hearts and I did not want to put them through any
more heartache and pain as I had always done in the past, but I
also knew that I could not carry on with what I was doing
because before long I would end up dead and that would be worse
for them.
I could not quit on my own as I had tried several times
before and failed. It was then I made the decision. The
following day I sat my parents down and told them everything.
They were devastated but told me that they were there to support
and help me through it, so my mam looked after me for 2 days
when I was doing my withdrawal at home, but by the second
evening I had had enough and took the easy way out once again
and started using.
A few weeks later my brother came to my house and said he had
been on the internet and found out about Narconon, he asked me
if I wanted to go, so I agreed. Within a few days I was at the
door meeting Dale with my family. I was quite surprised as I was
expecting the Hilton hotel but HEY!! I decided I did not want to
stay so I stood at the car and refused to go in. My dad was
pleading with me and then my sister and my brother came to speak
to me. In the end I decided to go into the house. My dad put his
arms around me and walked me to the door. It was only then that
I raised my head to look at him and say goodbye; for the first
time in my life I saw my dad crying. It was then that it really
hit me, the heartache I was putting them through, so I said
goodbye and want to withdrawals where I met Said. He kept
telling me I had to have assists, cal-mag, vitamins and of
course being Irish and stubborn I told him "No, it was all
rubbish" and told him to leave me alone. After 7 horrible long
days in withdrawals, after I stopped shouting and giving out, I
did what I was meant to do and it helped. I was downstairs the
following day, where more shouting and stubbornness continued
with book 1 (training routines). After 2 and a half weeks I was
finished and it was down to the sauna for me. What great fun we
had down there. I even managed to get a 5 day holiday from it
after I refused to go in, but when I did go back in I was good
and managed to complete it. I felt great after it. Then it was
time to go back to the course room to do book 3. It was a good
book which gives you the basis to understanding the other books,
which I enjoyed. Then I realised it was time for another little
holiday, but back to Ireland now, but not before spending the
weekend in Hastings with the staff trying to get me to stay, but
that didn't happen. I went back to Ireland for 4 months where I
relapsed and went back to using heroin. Before long I was back
in withdrawals at Narconon.
Then it was back to book 1 when I decided I wanted another
little holiday back in Ireland (I got suspended from the
programme for using drugs). It was then that I really opened my
eyes to reality, to see my parents that day when they came to
take me home, that's when I decided I wanted to do this
seriously, for myself and my family as I knew this was my last
chance and if I did not stop now that my family would not be
there for me. So I studied books 5 and 6 while I was suspended,
they are really good books and helped me realise as to why I
felt the way I did and how to handle and get rid of that feeling
and lots of other really good stuff such as to know about
different types of people and how to see the good from the bad.
Then I came back to Narconon and had lots of fun writing up all
the things I'd done wrong. When I finished it was like a weight
had been lifted off my shoulders and my responsibility levels
were back up. Then it was into the objectives room where I met
my twin. I was really lucky to have got such a good twin to work
with; she was brilliant the whole way through our journey. It
was a long road but we got there and I want to say a big thank
you to her for being there for me all the way. Objectives were
life changing for me. I really enjoyed them and gained a lot
from them.
Then there was book 7 which was brilliant. It gave me the
chance to go back to when I was using drugs and see the person I
was back then and to see the damage I had done to myself and
others around me; to see the changes I have gone through these
past few months to the person I have now become. This course has
given me self control, confidence and stability which I have
never had before and I am a much happier, stronger person now.
I would like to say a big thank you to Dominique, Graham, Kim
and Neil and to all the other staff and to the students past and
present for your support and help through this course. I am very
grateful for everything and a big thank you to my parents and
family for all your love and support. Without you I would not be
sitting here today and for that I am forever grateful."
